Westside Dance Company offers a wide variety of classes so that every student has the opportunity to enjoy a well-rounded performing arts education. Decriptions of our current class oferings can be found below.

Ballet
CLASS DESCRIPTION
Ballet is taught by classically trained teachers where you will learn precise and highly formalized set steps and gestures. It is characterized by light, graceful and fluid movements. Each class depends on your age and skill level and once you are more advanced, you can earn your Pointe shoes.
WHAT SHOULD YOU WEAR?
In Ballet, we require a leotard (of any color) and tights (black or pink) and ballet shoes.
Combo Classes
CLASS DESCRIPTION
Combo Class is for dancers ages 3 - 7.
In this class we will learn all styles of dance to see what the dancers start to like! We start off with a Tap/Ballet combo class and will sometimes learn a Hip Hop or Contemporary combo
WHAT SHOULD YOU WEAR?
Westside asks that the dancers wear whatever they are most comfortable in. That can be a leotard and tights, just a leotard, or dance shorts and a top. No baggy clothes.
Please have ballet shoes and tap shoes with you every week.
Contemporary
CLASS DESCRIPTION
Contemporary class is for dancers wanting to find their own style in dance. Contemporary is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several different dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical, and ballet. In this class we work on connecting the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. Each class will be a different challenge for you by changing up what we learn each week.
WHAT SHOULD YOU WEAR?
In Contemporary, you can whatever makes you the most comfortable. We recommend leggings most of the time for floor work, but you can wear booty shorts, fitted shirts, or a sports bra. No baggy clothing.
For shoes, we prefer you to be barefoot or you can wear socks.
Hip Hop
CLASS DESCRIPTION
Hip Hop is a class for any dancer who just wants to let go and have fun. We highly recommend this class for dancers on their dance team. In this class you will all different types of hip hop styles such as commercial dance/dance team choreography but also, more stylized and specific genres like popping, locking, krumping, and jazz funk.
WHAT SHOULD YOU WEAR?
For Hip Hop, we want you to wear whatever makes you feel like you are a Hip Hop dancer. We highly recommend that you do not wear the same outfit as you wear in Jazz. You can wear sweatshirts, sweatpants, leggings, t shirts, and hats in this class as well.
For shoes, please wear tennis shoes and not jazz shoes. Your tennis shoes should be clean to be worn on the dance floor.
Jazz
CLASS DESCRIPTION
Jazz class is a class where you will learn Jazz basics and highly recommended for dancers on their dance team. We start with a thorough stretch and workout, into across the floor work which includes but is not limited to, kicks, leaps, and turns. Then learn a Jazz combo. Jazz class will create you into a dancer who owns their dancing with power, technique, confidence, and style.
WHAT SHOULD YOU WEAR?
In Jazz, you can whatever makes you feel the most confident. We recommend that dancers wear leggings, booty shorts, fitted shirts, or a sports bra. No baggy clothes.
Dancers should wear Jazz shoes (black or tan).
Progressions
CLASS DESCRIPTION
Progressions is a class that makes Westside unique! This class is highly recommended for dancers on a dance team. Progressions is run like a jazz class but is much more intense and advanced; It's designed for dancers who want to take their technique to the next level. Students work on kicking, leaping, and turning combinations that will prepare them for technical performances. New "tricks" are taught every week.
WHAT SHOULD YOU WEAR?
In Progressions, you can whatever makes you feel the most confident. We recommend leggings, booty shorts, fitting shirts, or a sports bra. No baggy clothes.
Dancers should wear Jazz shoes (black or tan).
Tap
CLASS DESCRIPTION
Tap class is a class wearing shoes with metal taps, tap shoes. In this class you will learn rhythmical tapping of the toes and heels.
WHAT SHOULD YOU WEAR?
For tap, you can wear whatever you want, as long as it is dance clothes! We recommend, leggings, booty shorts, fitted shirts, or a sports bra. No baggy pants or long pants that cover your feet.
For shoes, you can whatever tap shoes you like, however Westside recommends Bloch brand, black tap shoes that tie.
